This week are aimed for discussing on the formative test that the
students have undergoes last week. FORM 5 students have shown improvement
compared to their previous test while this is the first test for FORM 4, it can
be said that majority of them perform well with a handful of students that
required extra attention. Discussion on the test will only takes about 1 period
for each class, the rest of the slot will be on new topics respectively.
Activities this
week.
The lesson and revisions conducted in this week
are:
FORM 4: This week we proceed to Chapter 3 (SYSTEM
OF EQUATIONS), specifically 3.1 (SYSTEM OF LINEAR EQUATIONS IN 3 VARIABLES).
This topic is quite interesting and unique for my students,
and this is due to the numerous combinations on the steps that they can opt for
in solving it, which is differ from other topics which will be having standard
solving methods. Thus, each of them might attempt different methods from their
peers and arrived at the same final solutions.
For this chapter, I employ discovery learning
method by letting the students to attempt each question themselves and compared
their steps/solutions with their friends at the end of the sessions.
The STRENGTH of my approach is it encourages
experimenting mathematical steps for the students.
but the apparent WEAKNESS is a handful of the students
cannot get past on certain questions as they have low analytical skills,
requiring constant help from the teacher.
OPPORTUNITY that can be seen is for them to train their
analytical and deduction skills, as well encourage them to be more independent
in learnings.
Whereas the THREAT is discouragement from the length of
solutions by each student where some of them might get lower self-esteem when
comparing their solutions with the top performers.
FORM 5: This week we are studying Topic 5 (CONGRUENCY, ENLARGEMENT AND
COMBINED TRANSFORMATIONS), mainly 5.1 (CONGRUENCY)
For these sessions, I have implemented learning through discovery. Using
the materials provided in QR code from the textbook, I instructed students to
pair up, and engage in discovery activity based on the GEOGEBRA materials.
The STRENGTH of my approach is student able to get
clearer comprehension on the concept of congruent polygons
but the apparent WEAKNESS is there are few of them that
didn't participate much in the discussion during pairing.
OPPORTUNITY that can be seen is for them to get more interested
in discovering other mathematical concepts.
Whereas the THREAT is in the poor internet connection
in the class as the activity relied heavily with internet connections.
Co-curriculum activities this week.
Football club: No
activity this week.
Police cadet: This
week activity is still on practicing cadet police parade. Majority perform
better compared to the previous sessions. We are dividing the students in 4
groups, by gender and year, making it easier to assess individual posture and
form when doing the parade.
In addition, this week I have been given the chance
to share my knowledges regarding EDAPP to the other teachers. It's been an honour
for me to be bless with the trust in sharing on what I have learned during
semester 2 of my DIPED.
